Do a quick Google search of this question and you’ll find some horror stories about wigs coming off when people were in the middle of a passionate moment.
But wearing a wig shouldn’t stop you being intimate with someone.
Okay, there are issues to think about, including whether or not you’re going to mention to someone that you wear a wig (especially if it’s a new partner) and what you would do if your wig was to slip or even, shock horror, come off during sex.
But sex is a natural part of life, and if you are suffering from hair loss, whatever the cause, your wig is something that makes you feel beautiful and confident again. Wigs and sex can mix, you’ve just got to know how to make your wig as secure as possible so it won’t budge when you’re in the throes of passion!
How to sex-proof your wig
Okay ladies, I know that securing your wig properly is an everyday concern, but it’s even more important that it stays firmly in place during sex when you’ll be feeling more vulnerable than usual. Here are the best methods of securing your wig during sex. I recommend you try a few different options and see what makes you feel the most comfortable and confident.
Wig Tape
Tape is one of the most effective methods of securing a wig. You’ll find that it comes in different forms, like a roll, pre-cut strips, and tabs. Try each and see which one you like the most. The downside of tape is that because the wig is so secure to your head, you might get a little hot when you’re getting frisky.
Wig Glue
This will also make your wig feel extra secure, but be wary of using glue if you have sensitive skin as it can cause irritation. Not only that, if you’re using a wig as a protective style to shield your natural hair from damage and help it grow, glue can actually clog the hair follicles and prevent healthy hair growth, which is the last thing you want. And just like tape, glue makes your wig so secure that it can get a little hot under there!

Wig Grips
Wig grips are popular and can be used whether you have natural hair or not. They are also gentle on natural hair, so they’re a perfect choice if you are trying to grow your hair back and avoid damage. There’s a downside though, if the adjustable strap on the grip loosens or breaks, your wig can slide or fall off. Not what you want during an intimate moment!
I’d recommend keeping an extra grip in your bedside drawer or bathroom just in case.
Wig Caps
Wig caps are also a good option whether you have natural hair or not. You’ll find that there are a few different types of cap:
- Nylon Wig Caps- If you have short hair or no hair, these are your best option.
- Mesh Wig Caps- These are best if you have longer hair as they can flatten and hold natural hair.
- Wig Grip Caps- These are the best choice if you want your wig to be secure but you have sensitive skin.
Be aware that wig caps do stretch out over time so they’ll need replacing, or you risk your wig slipping off at inopportune moments (yes, I mean in the bedroom!). They can also make you feel warm, and if they aren’t cleaned properly, sweat and oil build-up means that they can start to smell. Not the best aphrodisiac!
Wig Clips
If you have natural and you’re handy with a needle and thread, wig clips might be just what you need to sex-proof your wig. The best thing about wig clips is that once they are sewn in to the wig, they will never need to be replaced.
With a bit of planning and trial and error, you can try and test these methods and see which one works best for you.
