Frontal wigs are a popular choice when it comes to hair systems because they are versatile when it comes to styling and mimic a real hairline. The only thing with frontals is that they do take a bit more maintenance. It’s not just a case of throwing them on, they need to be fitted and secured with care so they look their best.
The problem with glue
Relying on glue to secure a frontal wig brings a few problems. If you keep applying glue whenever it lifts, the glue can build up and look crusty; not a good look!
Glue can also block the pores of the scalp and damage the hair follicles which can cause hair thinning and even stop it from growing. This the last thing you want if you want healthy natural hair regrowth.
Another common problem is that people who wear hair systems and use glue can suffer from allergic reactions to the glue, because it often contains latex.
What are the alternatives to glue?
The good news is that there are several great alternatives to glue that won’t cause damage to your natural hair and they’ll give you just as much security.
Tape
Using tape to secure your frontal wig is a popular choice because it’s strong, it allows for some natural-looking movement, and it’s not as damaging as glue.
Tape is also a great choice if you don’t have any hair and you have a sensitive scalp (for example, if you’ve had cancer treatment.) Wig glues can cause irritation to the sensitive skin of the scalp in some people.
Some tapes come in pre-cut strips or you can cut it to your preferred size, and they also come in varying strengths, so you don’t need to worry about keeping your wig in place, even if you’re having a busy or active day. So tape gives you peace of mind and it’s an economical option too; a roll of tape will last you a good while.
Be warned though, if you don’t want to wear your wig for hours on end, tape might not be the best option. It is strong, which is great, but if you remove your wig regularly, you’ll find that constantly removing the tape can feel a little uncomfortable.
Wig combs or clips
Some wigs have clips already attached, but if you want your frontal wig to feel a bit more secure, you can easily add some. All you have to do is sew them in. Wig clips will only work if you have some natural hair and you don’t wear a wig cap. They come in different colours and sizes to complement the style and colour of your wig.
Elastic band
Buy an elastic band then attach it to the back of the wig so it from ear to ear. This will give you a natural looking, comfortable snug fit.
