How Wig Glue Can Harm Your Hair and Scalp Health

Woman itching scalp because of wig glue

If you’re suffering from hair loss, a wig can be the answer to your prayers, but you need to remember that the goal should always be to have a healthy scalp and encourage healthy hair growth, rather than just masking the issue.

Wigs are a great hair loss solution when they are fitted well and taken care of properly. Even though there are lots of different ways to secure your wig, many people still use glue, which can affect the health of your scalp and your natural hair.

Here’s how wig glue can harm your hair and scalp health.

The problems that wig glue can cause

  • It can block your hair follicles and slow down or even stop hair growth which is the last thing you want when you want strong, healthy hair.
  • It can cause allergic reactions. If you notice redness, itching, or any other type of reaction, stop using the wig glue immediately.
  • It can cause further hair loss. In the last blog, I talked about how a healthy scalp is the foundation of healthy hair. If your scalp is irritated and your hair follicles are blocked or damaged, new hair is not going to grow and you might even lose more of the natural hair you do have.

My recommendation is that you look for another method to secure your wig-check out my blog for some top tips.

Scalp rehab

If you have been using glue and your scalp is not feeling so healthy, or your hair doesn’t seem to be growing back for another reason, you need to give it a little bit of tlc.

Aveda’s invatiTM range is a 3-step solution for thinning hair and a healthier scalp. There’s a shampoo, conditioner, masque, scalp revitalizer, and products for men in the range, which is 98% naturally-derived and is made from a patented bio-fermented blend plus Aveda’s own Ayurvedic herb blend with ginseng and certified organic turmeric to invigorate the scalp when massaged in.

As well as giving products a go, there are plenty of natural scalp nourishing and hair growth remedies you can try, as well as medicated solutions from your doctor.
